Hi everyone,

Firstly, thank you to everyone for being so patient this week.

The season only officially starts this week, but we had to give Southwest Metro last Wednesday a list of teams that will be playing this coming Friday and Saturday. This is one of the main reasons why we had our grading day and by organising training during last week. We tried to ensure that everyone that register was able to play the first week, we gave Southwest 57 Rockets teams and hopefully they will all be playing this Friday night and Saturday.

I would like to thank everyone on the committee & age coordinators for their hours of work this week. It is an has been unbelievable feat you have undertaken while you all work full time and, in some cases, have had COVID.

Thanks to all the coaches for assisting with the grading day and to all the helpers on our uniform days on Saturday and last Friday. We will have another uniform day this coming Friday from 4:30 to 5:30pm for those that were unable to make last week, remembering you will need Rocket shorts to be playing games.

With our teams there may be some changes with what division teams play in to what we nominated and some movement of players to ensure that they are playing in the correct division, this is what the first 3 weeks of trials are about. We should know a lot more after this week’s games.

We have put together at the bottom of the email under our sponsors a group of links that may help you.For the first three weeks of trials, the game may not be on team app until late in the week but we will keep you informed.

Other clubs do not put all their teams in so the draw changes each week for the first 3 weeks which is why the draw changes. Once the trials are finished you will know a month in advance of the times for all games.

I think out of our 57 teams only 3 have temporary coaches so I thank all the coaches for being part of your son or daughters sport it is a wonderful thing to do. Half the teams have managers, it is not necessary to have a manager but it does help the coach a lot on game day and it is the little things that really do make a difference. If you would like to become a manager for your son or daughter’s team, please send us an email and we are happy to tell you what is involed.

We all know the saying ‘it takes a village to bring up a child’ and it takes almost a village to organise 57 basketball teams with coaches and managers If you can help in anyway, your children will love to see their Mum or Dad be involved in the club.

Please be mindful that everyone on the committee works full time and are volunteers. Replies to emails may not occur immediately, with over 500 members (521 to be exact) you can imagine that there is a lot of communication coming through and we endeavour to answer everything within 24 hours.

Can all coaches please register as coaches on our website under registrations. Once you are registered, we can send you our training plan for U8, U10, U12 and U14s.

For those waiting on size 5 balls, we are still awaiting delivery. As soon as they arrive, I shall inform you in my weekly email.
