Second week of trials

Hi everyone,

We received changes from Southwest Metro to the association rules at 8.50pm on Friday night and over the weekend we have been working through what it means to us as a club. If you have not received anything then it does not affect you or your team.

Next week you all have to have your SWM registrations fees paid. This is a separate fee to Rockets and is to be paid to Southwest Metro. They are our governing body and look after game insurances, umpires, court supervisors, running the competition etc. Go to the piratesbasketball.net.au website - click on Junior Rego fees on right hand side for Junior fee charges. If you have any issues, please send us an email for assistance.

We will shortly move onto the next phase of the season, the competition proper. Every team has a coach so we would like every team to have a manager. Your son or daughter will be so proud to say “my mum or dad is our manager” and it is a wonderful thing to be involved in your child’s sport. Our children are only young for a short period and these opportunities do not come often.

Your age coordinator will help you with what is required and we would like if you wear one of our white Rockets shirts so the parents know who can help.

Reminder - fees are due by 25th Feb to ensure your child can take the court. We always work with families and are happy to start a payment plan if that will help - please contact Treasurerrockets@gmail.com to arrange a payment plan or if there are any issues with this.

Parents - after the game try not to ask your child “how many points did you score”. Basketball is a

team sport relying on defence, passing and communication not just shooting.

My questions to the players after a game are:

How many turn overs did you cause today? – i.e. make the other team lose the ball. Talking about turn overs is very exciting and reliving these moments are great.

How many times did you pass the ball more than 2 metres? – showing they are a good team player looking for

their team mates.

Assists – how many did you do? These are passes to your team mate, doing this everyone gets an opportunity to shoot.

How many times did you congratulate your team mate during the game?

Give your child a target on assists, passes, turnovers, communications you will be truly amazed the difference it makes in how your child feels about how they played and their team mates.

Rockets are after wonderful team mates and people and when our players are good team mates everyone wins no matter what the score is, as winning is just not about the score at the end of the game.

As Mums, Dads and Carers you are as important as the coaches. It is wonderful when everyone works together to make all our children better people and players and learn what is truly important in life and sport.

Below is a pic of our youngest assistant coach well done Kobi - he is the one on the right the shorter one in case you are not sure :)

Our basketballs have arrived so if you don't have a ball they are now available. The balls are made specifically for Rockets but remember to put your name and number on the ball.
