Lockdown not completely removed for Basketball

Hi all,

we have just received clarification from the Qld Government Sport & Recreation on what the next phase of the current COVID – 19 update is in regards to our sport. Below is an extract:

The 11 LGAs impacted by the recent lockdown conditions include:

  • Brisbane City Council
  • Logan City Council
  • Moreton Bay Regional Council
  • Ipswich City Council
  • Redland City Council
  • Sunshine Coast Regional Council
  • Gold Coast City Council
  • Noosa Shire Council
  • Somerset Regional Council
  • Lockyer Valley Regional Council
  • Scenic Rim Regional Council.

While the lockdown will end for the abovementioned LGAs, a range of temporary restrictions have been advised and will be implemented from 4pm Sunday 8 August 2021, through until 4pm Sunday 22 August 2021, to ensure the continued safety of our communities.

At this time, it has been advised that:

  • community sport (including 'state leagues') cannot resume and will not be permitted for this next two-week period.
  • school sport and activities can proceed with only students from the same school.

What Rockets are doing:

We will still have our movie day; the theatre has to work out what dates are available and it will be as soon as possible. We will contact you as soon as we know.

Please be confident that we always look for what we can do for your children, things that we have done this year:

# in Season 1 we started a week earlier than every other club

# we had a trial/sign on day in Season 1 where everyone could come and try

# extended training for our U8 & U10 after the competition finished in Season 1

# holiday camp during the school holidays

# Two separate occasions organised our smaller children playing at NBL1 games & all Rockets children receiving free chips and drink on the night

# had a trial/sign on day at the beginning of Season 2 and had Brendan Teys coaching the smaller children

# Season 2 is a week longer for most age groups and the fees were not increased as the club wore those costs.

We are all about your children & what we can do for them, when things like this occur we will always look for what we can do for your children. The club is 21 years old and there are always challenges of some type.

As Vice President of SouthWest Meto one of my roles is what are the needs of the Junior competition and I did say last week that I had started conversations with the General Manager & Competition Manager regarding a range of things.

There is a lot involved in a season such as venues, supervisors, referees etc, everything needs time to work through & I will ensure everyone is kept up to date as soon as I know more, but please be confident I believe it will all be ok.

Talk to you all soon.

Kind regards

Mark Smith
