Hi all,

Recently I have been asked about things that I have mentioned in our newsletter, it is disappointing that there are some people who may not getting them. If you are talking to another member, could you mention the newsletters. We can check why they are not getting them if we know.

Term 3 is finished

This week was the last week of training for term 3 and we will return to training on Monday 3^rd October and games that weekend.

Holiday camps

If your children are looking for holiday camps, Southwest Metro has a holiday camp this coming week and so does the Brisbane Bullets and Sydney Mines has his holiday camp the following week. Please contact us if you require any information on any of these if you can’t find them on their website.

Season 2 – term 3

It has been an exciting First part of the season:

# We have negotiated a 40% discount on all goods from New Balance for all our members – ends in January 2023 and must be bought from their web site

# Under 15 boys have started using our shooting machine and we will get more teams in different age groups and divisions in term four

# We ran some basketball programs at Warrigal Road State Primary School

# We have started attending MacGregor State Primary School and will attend sessions there through term four

Term 4

It will be a busy term for us

# In term 4 we will be doing some community work with Sunnybank State Special School

# We will be filming our games with Veo and sending the link to the parents of the games – we did a trial of some games on Friday night and here is the link to one of them so you know what to expect.https://app.veo.co/matches/20220916-u15-purple-rr44-vs-rch31-ce763147/

This is about enjoying your son or daughter’s game not looking for fault with anyone. Some games may not be able to be filmed so we do have to do some checks.

Some of the school venues might not be available towards the end of November because of the presentation evenings but we will notify you well in advance.

Special Coaches

We would like to congratulate Alex and Riley who are coaches of one of our under 13 teams, and who are currently playing in the state championship for Senior schoolboys at the Gold Coast.

Also would like to congratulate Lennon Bann another under 13 coach who was chosen in the junior NBA squad early on this year and will be going to Japan next week with the team.

Rockets in general

We had 68 teams compete in the competition this term and just on 700 registrations. I know the season is only halfway through, but I just like to say a thank you to all the mums and dads who bring their children to training and games on time and for the coaches who spend many hours at Basketball because without you there will be 700 children that would not be able to play sport. As a side note, I believe we have 15 teams that are coached by someone who has no connection to anyone in that team and is a volunteer, we really do have special people in the club.

What to talk about after the game

In term four if we could, would we be able to reduce asking the number of points your child scored. Could we ask them how many turnovers they created, how many interceptions did they made, how many times did they stop the opponent from shooting; all these things are team based. I do know that we need people to shoot the ball and when a team is defensive orientated it creates so many more opportunities for scoring.

I saw a good caption the other day and it stated - Offence wins highlights, defence wins championships.
