Workshops for athletes and coaches information

Hi everyone,

There are a couple of things that the club has been working on recently for the children and coaches. I believe these will be enlightening for both our coaches and youth Athletes.

Workshop to help young athletes

We are offering a FREE Mental Edge Workshop at 11am on 10 December at Runcorn State High School – it will be in one of the class rooms and will take75 minutes. We will contact you as the date comes closer but we do need numbers now if you are interested.

The Assist Mental Edge Program has been designed to create a positive shift in youth athlete mindset & mental development and will be presented by a psychologist.

The tools learned throughout the workshops are proven to not only help athletes reach optimal performance but provide athletes with tools that will help them in all aspects of their lives.

These Psychology based programs will help them become more self-aware, mentally tough, more resilient and will provide them with a toolkit that can use when it is needed most – in the face of adversity & pressure.

They will be discussing their self identity and what this looks like as an athlete and person (which ties in with mental health) and then will be working on learning about and implementing a couple of specific mental skills - self talk etc.

Workshop for Coaches

For all our coaches next year we will be running a Youth Mental Health First Aid training session.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid training session will only be 75 minutes as an introduction as it is normally run over two days. It will equip coaches with mental health literacy around youth mental health, and provide the recognition, support and referral to appropriate services early and timely.

Supporting Coaches

We will be sending out an email in the next week or so regarding development for club coaches and anyone who is interested in club coaching.

There will be a free online community Coaches course online. Community coach courses are designed to help prepare coaches across all sports for what to expect in their role.

Basketball Queensland has developed a new coaches app which provides access to information on coaching accreditation pathways and coaching resources, including a number of great videos.

Please contact me if you are interested in the Mental Edge Workshop or coaching information.
