Welcome to those that have just joined our Rockets.
These newsletters are sent out every week as I try to keep all our members informed of what is happening with the club or may affect your child.
Everyone who enrolled in season 1, please be aware that you don’t pay any money for term two.
Many things have occurred over the break and I won’t elaborate on all of them now but I will give you a brief summary and expand on them over the coming weeks. Being on the Board of Southwest Pirates I do push for what I think may help the competition. In term 2 there will be a trial of 9 minute quarters instead of 8 minute quarters. There are a lot of things to consider with Covid, but we are going to try to see how it goes. For the first few weeks Southwest will trial 9 minute quarters & teams will only have 1 timeout in each half not 2. Please try to leave the hall as soon as possible after your game to help the process and I know from what I see last term our members are exceptional at this.
In the June holidays we are holding a 3 x 3 competition, under the governing body of 3x3 Hustle https://www.3x3hustle.com/news/ . We will tell you more about the competition in the next week or so and anyone from Rockets who would like to enter a team we will organise that before it goes out to the 3x3 Hustle community. We may even look at holding some practice games before the tournament. I have been to one of these tournaments and they are very busy, each team plays a minimum of 4 games on the day, there is music played all day, trophies at the end of the day, food & just a great day. I feel very pleased how Rockets is seen in the basketball community & am thrilled with some of the things we are able to bring to our members.
We are sponsoring two players that are playing for the Pirates NBL1 team this season. The players are Brendan Tyes who has been playing for the Adelaide 36s for the last 7 years and we will also have a female player Kisha Lee. Kisha is an American professional player who has played College basketball for the University of Nevada and played Basketball throughout Europe. Both players will be coming to help our coaches with training their teams this term.
The NBL 1 competition starts Saturday 15th of May and the first game is a “Rockets game” so Rockets will try and do something special for everyone from Rockets that goes to the game. I am also currently talking to the other VP of Pirates and the head of NBL1 to see what the association can put in place for Rockets on this night.
The next thing is we have been asked if some of our players could be interviewed and we have a Production company /studio wanting to film the children being interviewed. Once the children have been interviewed we will be able to inform you what it will be used for but for now all I can say is that it is very exciting & we are very privileged to be asked to particpate in this event.
I am putting in an order for Track Suits this week and wondering who would be interested in a Jacket or Track suit. We do have stock of them now if you want to get in early.
With your team if your division has an odd number of teams you will get a ‘Bye” occasionally which means you do not have a game that week but that will not happen often. There are some byes to Gold teams and this is because of representative commitments and early Rep games in different towns.
All age groups have a coordinator so if you have a query, they will be able to help so please ask if you are not sure of something. That is all for this week and welcome back everyone.
From the courts kind regards.
